Headphones
and empty beer cans on the floor can only mean one thing:
a full-on rock n roll bender.
Previous
benders have been brought to you by Flipp's self-titled
first CD, The Replacements' Pleased to Meet Me, Cheap Trick
Live in Chicago, Gimmie Shelter, and a host of others too
many too mention.
The
guilty party this time is new Faces Box Set, Five Guys Walk
into a Bar... I can't get enough of it. Can't stop rocking.
Must drink beer. Must hear Faces.
I
have gone through Faces "Fases" before. Most recently
last year in Minneapolis, when I spent 15 of my last 20
dollars buying the Best of The Faces, because I had to hear
"Pool Hall Richard" right now. Because of this
decision, I was forced to survive on plain bagels and tap
water for days before we made enough cash so I could get
the Friday Fish fry in Marquette.
Mmmnnn….fish
fry.
I won't
bore you with the history (something are best learned for
yourself), but The Faces were Rod Stewart, Ron Wood, Ronnie
Lane, Ian McLagan, and Kenny Jones. While other early 70's
bands were taking things very seriously, The Faces would
set up a bar on stage and play straight-forward good-time
rock n roll.
McLagan
sequenced this 4-CD set. According to the liner notes, after
trying to do it many different ways (chronological, singles/outtakes),
he pored a pint of "black madness" and just went
on his own Faces bender.
The
love shines through. The rarely heard Faces live version
of "Maggie May" is a must hear. Check it out.
